For Love of The Sally–Steel Doin’ It

December 12, 2018 @ 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Donation

Now in its ninth year a wide variety of area and regional musicians will perform in their concert series “For Love of the Sally” at Grand Haven’s D&W Fresh Market.  The concerts are to raise funds for the efforts of The Salvation Army in the Tri Cities area.

Steel Doin’ It is a group of Trinidadian steel pan players and was born in 2002 from a community education class taught by Glen Miller at Spring Lake High School.  The group of nine is composed of Grand Haven and Spring Lake residents. Sharon Rathbun, Rebecca Kaufman, Scott Klempel, Karen Cotton, Cindy Krause, Ambre Slater, and Diane Veneklasen play steel drums. Setting the beat and playing the “toys” are Kevin Schmucker and Kelly Parker.

Many of the musical performers—all volunteers who have offered their time and talents—are returning for yet another year of concerts. There also are several new acts. Last year area music lovers and supporters of The Salvation Army donated more than 23-hundred dollars during the concerts at D&W.

All proceeds go to The Salvation Army and all concerts are in the store’s café area.

The Grand Haven D&W Fresh Market is at 1116 Robbins Road. The Salvation Army has been active in Grand Haven since 1922.  The Salvation Army facility is at 310 North DeSpelder. The phone number is 616.842.3380.
